So I installed the disgusting-looking GTX 1060 GPU and my PPD went from ~46k to 516k. And my computer got a lot noisier, but it’s only using about 95 watts more of electricity. So a 40% increase in power consumption yields a 1000% increase in oppoflop output.

brave, sticking that crusty thing in a non-disposable computer... I;ve been waiting for a WU for my GPU for almost 17 hours. Keeps reporting no work units avail able for this configuration :( My i5 6300Q can only manage about 8000 ppd, the 960M bumps me up to ~1o5 K... when it has work units...

Nice! I also seriously love the oppoflop term.

Thanks. I claim credit for that term, BTW...
I ordered the Radeon 580, then tried to cancel the order, but too slow. So I’ll have two GPUs. At this point, I’m not wanting to expend the electricity running two machines. The seller of the 580 will take it back if I pay for the postage.

Something has to be wrong with my setup, my 1070 when it gets WU is barely 100k PPD.

Did you get a passkey?

Maybe that’s what our team ought to be called.

I like leaving the name as is - but I think it should be used interchangeably as both a unit of work and as those of us turning electricity into work units.
Sorry about the extra GPU - it’s a bit fiddly but you can run both an Nvidia and AMD GPU in your workstation if your power supply can handle it. Just install both drivers and it’ll work in Windows 10.

I have a second PCIe slot, but a second GPU would sit flush against the 1060 and there might be air flow issues.
I’d be afraid of changing the team name and screwing up our standing. We’re at 64 or 65 million now.
I was thinking about t-shirts... The front would have a picture of the F@h protein logo and “ Team Oppositelock.” The back would have “OPPOFLOP.” Black, of course, and simple.

I love the T-shirt idea!
Also yeah airflow is a big deal for GPUs when they’re cranking like this so not worth frying the first 1060 .

I have not but had assumed that would have no impact on WU. I’ll try getting a passkey.

Turns out I had a passkey for a different username from back in 2011, now my PPD is well over 400k. Thanks!

And another idea... 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons!
Though I would have to settle for a “participant” ribbon for myself.
LOL

“So a 40% increase in power consumption yields a 1000% increase in oppoflop output.”
From a pure power efficiency perspective, have only your GPU do the folding since it’s much better suited to it compared to the CPU.
But if you want maximum output, then leave it as-is.

Interesting idea, considering that the CPU only does 10% of the points of the GPU.

This is awesome. Put me down for an XL if it happens.

I’ll work up a mockup first.
